Self image and self confidence is something I’ve always struggled with, along with the majority of the female population. I’ve never been the girl all the guys swooned over, I’ve never been the girl that other girls were jealous of, I don’t have big boobs, I don’t have the best body, I don’t have the cutest clothes, and I barely even know how to do makeup or fix my hair. When I look in the mirror I only see the things I
don’t like. Being in the fitness industry it makes it even harder because I feel like I have to make sure I always look 100% because I need to be a walking image of what I can offer my clients. When I don’t see the results I want to see I get discouraged and pick out everything that’s wrong. This is something I’ve always needed to work on and something I will continue to work on the rest of my life but I am striving to learn to love myself and the way I look. I’m writing this blog because I know that there are a lot of girls out there that deal with self confidence and self image and I hope to inspire you girls to learn to love yourselves and your body because God made you the way you are and you are all beautiful!
Growing up, us girls have always compared ourselves to other girls who are skinnier, have bigger boobs, a bigger butt, cuter clothes or better makeup and hair. Even the media tells us that the pretty girls are the ones with the perfect bodies and the perfect face. Have you ever seen a girl with a little extra weight, no makeup, messy hair, or even fully clothed on the front cover of a magazine? No, probably not!
Females are looked at as sex objects in today’s society. Most girls feel like they can’t leave their house without makeup, cute clothes, or their hair done because they have to impress guys 24/7. And don’t forget our clothes have to be super tight, really short, or revealing to make guys attracted to us! All we ever see is women who walk around half naked with their hair done and a full face of makeup. The media even advertises women who go to the gym wearing short shorts, a skimpy sports bra, hair down, a full face of makeup, and not even a bead of sweat on their face. THAT IS NOT REAL LIFE!!!!
Don’t get me wrong I love to dress up and put on makeup and look good but I also love to throw my hair up in a ponytail, put on those oversized sweats, take off my bra and put on that oversized t-shirt I’ve worn for the past 4 years and sit on the couch and relax. And when I go to the gym I plan on sweating, as much as I like to tell myself I sparkle….I don’t….I SWEAT! The gym is where I work on my fitness and try to build up my self confidence, not where I go to try to impress people with my looks. If any guy thinks I’m going into the gym wearing booty shorts, a sports bra with my boobs falling out, my hair down, and a full face of makeup, then he’s going to be disappointed! You shouldn’t be going into the gym trying to impress anybody! You should be going in the gym to focus on yourself!
From here on out, stop worrying about impressing others and start focusing on loving yourself! It’s perfectly okay for you to leave the house without an ounce of makeup on. It’s okay for you to go to the gym and sweat more than the guy (or girl) next to you because guess what, that means you’re working hard! And it’s definitely okay to go out in sweats and a t-shirt from time to time! Stop exhausting yourself by trying to impress everyone everywhere you go. Start loving yourself and how you look with or without makeup on, in cute clothes, sweats or in workout clothes, and in the gym getting your sweat on! It’s important to learn to love yourself because if you don’t love yourself you will
never be happy!
Here’s some things we can all do to boost our self confidence:
- Point out the things you like about yourself when you look in the mirror
- Surround yourself with people who lift you up
- Put posted notes around your room and on your mirrors that say “YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL”
- Constantly remind yourself that God made you, and everything He has made is beautiful
DO NOTcompare yourself to other girls, we are all different!
- Stop caking on the makeup, I promise you, you are a lot more beautiful with less makeup…..“Less is more!”
- Find a guy who loves you for who you are, who loves you with makeup on and dressed up, who loves you without makeup on and in sweats, and who loves you even when you sweat (sorry guys we don’t sparkle) in the gym!
